Pemerton Notes.
Our roads are in a very bad state. A lady when driving in the other day had her vehicle disabled, so had to borrow a trap from Mr Lay to continue her journey homewards at a very late hour. Rain and mud are in plentiful supply. A few parties have commenced to fell the bush on the recently acquired sections of land. Mr Hammond lost a valuable cow through the mistake of giving it sheep dip instead of sweet oil. There is a splendid crop of turnips to be seen on Curl's clearing. Some of the . roots weigh from 8 to 10 pounds. Our worthy hotelkeepor has had a good offer to 6ell out which he will probably accept. The Wairaki settlers aro plodding steadily on at the State Farm, clearing roads, etc., under the supervision of an overseer who arrived there on Tuesday. They will be kept in collar now. Three parties of surveyors are pushing on with the Block taken up by the Marton Associations Nos. I and 11. They are from 8 to 10 miles distant from the Pemberton Post Office. I hear there is eouie very good land in portions of the Block up by the Kawatou stream.
