How Cattle Graze

A gentleman who has observed the mode adopted by cattle when grazing Bays : _« A day or two spent in observing a herd of cattle in a large pasture will disclose the fact that they visit almost every corner of it during the day. Las I year I had a large pasture made up of upland wild grass and slough wild grass. They fed on the wild grass for breakfast, and after spending an hour or so resting and ruminating, would go down to the lower lands for water, and eafc on the blue* grass and slough giass until toward noon. Then they would lie on the high points in the wind. Next they spent an hour or so in the sheltered part of the meadow, then the upland next the lowland grass, and finish up with a hearty supper of timothy and clover. This was the programme every day, and I am convinced that the cattle did better than they would had they been confined to small parts of the pasture, where only one kind of grass would have been accessible at one time.
