-» The following is the report of the Board of Directors of the Wellington and Manawatu liailway Company, to be presented at the twelfth annual meeting in the Chamber of Commerce at noon on Wednesday, sth April : — The Directors beg to submit their twelfth annual statement of accounts to shareholders. The traffic receipts for the year amount to £84,432 9s Ud, showing an increase of .£2,059 10s 8d on the past year. The area of land sold 6ince last meeting has been 12,994 acres, of which 1*2,963 acres were rural lands, and 31 acres town sections ; the total sum realised from sales being £18,059 16s Bd. Your directors recommend the payment of a dividend of 5 per cent per annum on the paid up capital of the company. Drainage work on the Makerua swamp has been started again, and so far good progress has been made. Messrs McCarthy and Smith retire by rotation from the directory, and offer themselves for reelection. The net traffic proceeds for the year amounted to £49,984 19s lid, and the net profit of the railway account (available for dividend) was £7258 17s 9d.
