Messrs Barraud and Abraham's Seed Report for 1893

The above firm report as follows npon the various seeds for the current season : — Cocksfoot has gone somewhat out of favor of late years, owing to its habit of forcing out the finer grasses, and becoming rank on rich soil, but it will be always found necessary in mixtures for hills and poorer land. The new crop will be smaller than usual, owing to low prices ruling last year, and good clean seed will probably be in demand at last year's prices. We have some thoroughly cleaned good samples on hand, and quote clean heavy bright seed, machine dressed at 2£d to 3d ; with large supplies offering. Crested Dogstail has come greatly into favor on account of the abundance of rich feed it produces, and is largely in demand in this district. We have secured several large crops, but as the quantity is likely to be considerably less than the dotnand. we would advise our customers to place their orders early, as wo have been compelled to decline large wholesale orders all over the colouy. Prices for this aoed vary almost daily, and fluctuate very much. Timothy.— Samples hitherto to hand are very fair, but so far not much has been harvested. We expect locally grown supplies shortly, and have also imported stocks. This grass is one of the most productive, is very nutritious, and is highly suitable for rich moist lands. Messrs Barraud and Abraham are also | agents for Audrews and Beaven's chaff- ! cutters, seed cleaning machines, etc., and Booth and McDonald's Carlylo implements. The firm is agent for the Massey Harris Binder, and has recently received a most flattenug testimonial from Mr Joseph Grey of Sandon, who writes as follows :— '• The Massey open baok binder is in every way most satisfactory, and he considers it the best he has seen or used, especially on steep hillsides, where no other binder can be worked, and for hillside work this machine could not be improved upon, as it is practically impossible to upset it." Messrs Barraud and Abraham are now doing a very large and increasing business iv this district, ard are ably represented in Feilding by Mr Ormond Cooper.
