Sir George Grey
In his eloquent speech to the electors of ralmerston last- Monday night, Sir George Grey put great stress on the " one man one vofce" system which is now the law when electing members of Parliament, and at the same time pointed out how it put every man on a level in respect to representation. We quite agree with Sir George that the new eystem of , manhood representation has its ad- j vantages, and hope it will stand the test it is so shortly to be submitted tol,^ But it seems to us hardly consistent with Sir George Grey's expressed opinions on the subject, that he should allow the rumour that he will oppose Mr Mitchelaon for Eden, as well as stand for Auckland city, to go unconir<tdicted. "What is the sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander," and if one man may only have one vote, one member should only have- one seat. Of course Sir George may explain, if the lumour be true, that he does this thing in the interests of the people, and so on, but we must not do wrong that good may come.
