Official Blundering
We do not know who is responsible for the official blundering which caused the magisterial inquiry into the case of the burglary at the Feilding post office, to be held at Palmerston. It was a Feilding case, all the principal witnesses were from Feilding yet for some reason or other it was decided by those who have the ordering of these things, that the case should be heard in another township. The additional expense to the colony thus entailed will be very considerable, so much bo indeed that we should not be at all surprised to hear that the author of the blunder was reprimanded by the Government for want of sense and forethought. The Feildiag witnesses were not only put to great inconvenience but suffered much loss of valuable time. In some instances three days were absolutely wasted where one day would have sufficed. If we thought the ends of justice were likely to be furthered by holding the enquiry away from the spot where the crime was committed we would be the first to support tho action now complained of. but we do not think there was any likelihood of the law being assisted by a change of venue in this instance.
