FLIGHT OF TE KOOTI.
TWO HUNDRED NATIVES UNDER ARREST. GIBBOKNE, This Day. " The whole military force left Opotiki at 4 this morning, for a pah six j miles ouiy where Te Kooti wasyester- . day. On the arrival of the force, 20tf natives were on the road mounted, and awaited us. -. Major Porter rode forward aad was told Te Kooti Jiad left during the night by an inlaiiof track for Waikato country, f^ha natives were put under temporary arrest, but they say they are returning to their homes. The troops marched back at noon, and Major Porter is wiring to the Premier for instructions. Tt will not be possible to follow To Kooti on thetrackhehaatiken.but the '. troops may be ordered into the Waikato. . Auckland, This Day. . ' The Star's correspondent with the" Auckland contingent, interviewed Te Kooti on his arrival at Opotiki. On riding into , the pah the natives called out he was " the chief of the soldiers" and gathered round suspiciously. He assured them he was not, explained who he was, and dske& Te> Kooti what his intentions were. He : said " I am going to-morrow" and added "to Waikato." Te Kooti lookd bloated and apparently does not allow sufficient time 'to elapse between his drinks. H4s sympathisers are astounded at the turn affairs have taken, and show an unmistakeable alteration towards thepakehas. The behaviour of the troops of all branches !»• excellent,
