Correspondence
We are not responsible for the opinions of our correspondents.] THE FEILDING LYCEUM. THOMPSON V WHISKER. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAB. Sir, — A friend Las sent me a copy of your paper containing a report of the above case. Allow me to .point out a distinct contradiction in Mr Whisker's evidence. He is reported to have said that Mrs Moore!s answer to the question as to whether the lecture was her own production or not; . was, — "She had been assisted hy. others, but it was her own production." .; Mr Whisker is responsible for thiß.*^ answer; it certainly was i' not that •-. given by my wife. What she jsaid 'waWI that the lecture was her own production, except one or two extracts, - ( for which she had given the authority. The quotations were a few- lines only in each case. Mr Whisker's evidence generally is unreliable ; it was given no doubt with a view of casting ridicule upon the Lyceum proceedings. For instance, his statement about a good number of " juvenile boys" fbet ing present is untrue. There were not more than four boys: (and the youngest of these over 14 years oftgge) present, unless, indeed, Mr Whisker reckons himself among the number, His conduct w.as more like that of an impudent and ill-mannered boy than of a man with the smallest amount of common sense or courtesy. : <■ Whisker is either purposely untruths ful or he is troubled' with a very bad memory. He is a poor champion of Christianity inasmuch as he is too, excited; but I ask him to remember that untruthfulness is always contemptible. Allow me to add, J Sif* that all my wife's lectures are original, and do not contain a single sentence, of a course or vulgar character.— l am &c, George Mooke. Woodville, October 22, 1885.
