From an early hour the | visitors began to assemble on the sports ( Ground, and each succeeding train continued to add to the numbers, and up till two o'clock in the afternoon vehicles of every description discharged their j living loads at the gates, until a crowd of ' upwards of two thousand were spectators. ! Lfirge numbers of Natives put in an ap- | pearance. The numbers of ladies on tlie j lawn had a pleasing effect, and tlieir ! brilliant summer dresses contrasting with the bright green of the grass on the slope was very charming. '£he clusters of healthy and well-dressed children assist- | ins to form the family groups went far j to make up a scene of brightness and beauty. The heat was not too oppressiye, and was modified by the rain clouds | whose promises of much needed showers j were ainplv redeemed during last night when several most refreshing rainfalls occurred. During the whole of the proceedings there was not a single liitch of any kind, competitors and public being loud in their expressions of satisfaction with the manner in which the committee carried out their very arduous duiies. This event was run in three heats, the winners of each heat running off for places. Greenwood and Bennett reached tlie tape together, in the first heat ; Jackson and Copeland secur. d Ist and 2nd places in the second heat, aui Campbell Ist and Stretch 2nd in the third heat. The running in the final heat resulted as above. 5. Handicap Walking Match. — Two miles. Ist prize, £7 ; md, £2 ; 3rd, £1; entrance, 7s. The betting was strongly in favor of Belfit, who walked well throughout, and did his best to passCollinwood, who walked very strong and kept the leal after the first mile was done, to the finish. Townsend dropped out at the fifth lap, he, together with Clark, to whom all praise is due for his perseverance and pretty walking, (it being his first appearance before the public,) having walked tlie first mile in Bmiu. 42secs. Collingwood kept the lead and after a hard struggle between Belfit and Clark, the former secured 2nd place and the latter 3rd, Kitchen being " out of it" from start to finish. 6. Bicycle Race. This was a splendid face between Clark, Bel tit and Collingwood. Belfit beat Jollingwood and (. lark, the latter passng Collingwood aud securing second place.
