STONE-THROWING AT NGAIO
{To the Editor.)
Sir,—ln the report of the meeting of the Ngaio Progressive Association which appeared in "The Post" on Friday evening, mention was made of stone-throwing by the children of Ngaio School. You would think it was a danger for passers-by to walk along the streets. If such were the case I should have had many complaints, but I might say that I have had fewer complaints this year about stone-throw-ing than in ' any previous year. The members of the association should be very sure that their statements are facts before rushing into print. I made several inquiries from the members, but could get nothing concrete —some vague statements, but no proof that Ngaio School children had broken the windows. Much more good would be done if the association would cooperate with the teachers instead of putting headlines in the paper. I do not say that there is no stone-throw-ing in Ngaio, but all cases brought to my notice are investigated and talks are regularly given on the dangers of such. I looked in vain to find what other business had been done at the meeting, but evidently the whole eveninjrhad been taken up discussing stonethrowing, and " the only progressive step they suggested taking was to make polic •' out of other people's children. Very few members have children at school. I wonder what the parents think of this idea.—l am. etc, HEADMASTER, Ngaio School.
