BRITISH LOSSES
FANTASTIC NAZI CLAIMS
LONDON, October- 4.
"We have had an entertaining account today from the German news agency of the German version of air losses," said a London commentator tonight. "The story is a welter of fantastic figures, and we can pick out only a few. They announced proudly that since August 8 5400 British planes have crashed to destruction. The truth is that in that time we have lost 584 aircraft, with 317 of the pilots safe. "In September, the Germans say, their best week was from the 2nd to the Bth when 441 British planes were brought down. The truth about that week is: British losses 125, German losses 367. It. might be thought that the Germans would keep quiet about September 7 15, and 27, three of their worst days, when they lost 99, 185, and 133 aircraft respectively. They add up these three figures to only 107."
