CRIPPLED CHILDREN

SOCIETY

At the monthly meeting of the Wellington branch of the Crippled Children Society, presided over by Mrs. Knox Gilmer, a report was received from a sub-committee on the 'children's hospital. It was decided to obtain the views of other branches of the Crippled Children Society before making further representations. It was reported that negotiations were proceeding with the Toe H movement for the establishment of a boys' club. The report of the welfare officer disclosed that the number of) cases now registered in Wellington is 343. In addition to this number, the Wellington branch is constantly attending to cases sent to Wellington by other branches. An offer was received from the Aero Club to take children for flights, and this was left over until next year. It was reported from the social committee that a successful picnic had been held at Titahi Bay, and that a; Christmas party for thirty crippled babies and their mothers was to be held on December 15. v

Pleasure was expressed at the return to New Zealand of Mrs. F. E. Herbert, who was yeappointed to the welfare committee;and social committee. . The financial statement was approved. . ; A letter was received/from Dr. A. G. Butchers, headmaster of the' correspondence school, enclosing a report of the senior teacher in charge of invalid pupils on the handcraft work done by children, who had been assisted from a fund supplied by the Wellington Crippled Children's Society. The report showed that money had been expended in the purchase of materials and that when articles made had been sold, the vcost of the materials was repaid to the fund and used again. Fifteen of the older children are at present making articles for sale and fifty articles have been sold so far. Some of these articles are exhibited in the welfare office of the Crippled Children Society. -Dr. Butchers reported that the fund had been of great help in the working out of suitable types of handwork for crippled children, and that with the fun a he had been able to purchase extra material for the making of saleable articles. A meeting of the general committee will be held on December 12, when a report will be made by the executive on the work accomplished this year.
