"NOT FOR SALE"
(By Telegraph.) (Special to ,the "Evening Post.")
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
The cable from Sydney that an offer of £10,000 was being made for Royal Chief on behalf of a Sydney owner was referred today to Mr. A. K. Firth, the horse's owner.
Mr. Firth said the offer by cable had not reached him yet, but it will make no difference if it does come. He said, "The horse is not for sale." He added that he was not racing horses as a business, but solely for sport. He had hunted in England, and it was his love for horses that induced him to become an owner. He did not bet and«the commercial aspect did not weigh with him. Previous offers for Royal Chief had been received from India and Australia, but Mr. Firth said he had turned them down. His ambition when he became an owner was to secure a good horse in time, arid now that he had achieved his objective so quickly he saw no reason why he should sell.
