CAR OVER BANK
WOMAN KILLED
TWO MEN INJURED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. A woman was killed instantly and two men injured, one of them seriously, in a motor-car accident near Cass this afternoon, when a car crashed over a bank.
Those involved in the accident were:—
Mrs. T. W. Voller, aged 68, Worcester Street, Christchurch, killed.
Thomas William Voller, aged 69, fractured skull, broken leg, and fractured forearm.
William Booth Lambert, aged 44, fractured wrist and head injuries.
Lambert, the driver of the car, a commercial traveller, said he was on his way from Christchurch to Greymouth, with Mr. and Mrs. Voller as passengers. In the back of the car were several sample cases and other equipment. Suddenly, when rounding a bend, the back wheels seemed to lock and the car swayed from side to side, becoming out of control and crashing over a bank of 15 to 20 feet with a small creek below. The luggage at the back forced the front seat on top of the occupants and they were unable to move. Lambert regained consciousness soon after the crash, but was unable to move for, about an hour. Then assistance came from a passing car.
A Christchurch-Otira excursion train was held at Cass for 20 minutes while those injured were placed on board, and at Springfield the train waited 10 minutes while the injured were transferred to a St. John ambulance, which brought them to Christchurch.
