CURTAILED RATIONS
INCREASED ALLOCATION ?
RELIEF WORKERS' STATE-
MENT
The following statement is made by Mr. D.' McLaughlin, national secretary of the National Union of Unemployed:—
The national president (Mr. F. E. Lark) of the National Union of Unemployed has forwarded, a report to me concerning an interview which delegates from the Auckland Provincial Council of the union had recently with the Rt. Hon. J.G. Coates, Minister of Finance. The report states that when Mr. Coates was informed Of the > fact that the Unemployment Board had stopped the issue of rations and milk, thereby inflicting a serious decrease upon unemployed families, he promised to have the matter adjusted at once by arranging an increase in the' allocations of relief. As precisely; the same rates and conditions prevail in the four main centres, and as Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunediri unemployed.families have suffered the same reduction, it is to be presumed that Mr. Coates's intervention will cause an increase on present fates to occur to those families who have been deprived of, milk rations, etc., under the hew scheme, thereby greatly reducing their allocation of relief. .
An announcement by the Unemployment Board to this effect would be welcomed by several thousand mothers; whose children are suffering from the stoppage of the milk rations last week;
