BOARD'S INSTRUCTIONS

A meeting of the Petone Unemployment Committee yesterday, presided over by the Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie), had before it instructions. from the Unemployment Board that except in extraordinary circumstances all single men, after 23rd January, should receive only one day's work a week and after 13th February should receive no .work at all. \ ; '■•'..•■'

Consideration was also given to the Unemployment Board's instruction that all men who have land that can be used for gardening and who \did not utilise it for the growing of vegetables should be refused work..

While the committee has to carry out the instructions of. the board, it will do so as leniently as possible, and the case of every man will be considered on its merits.
