UNEMPLOYED WOMEN

WORK URGENTLY WANTED

It ia rather feared by thosa who are, working earnestly at the Women's ll*employment Bureau, at 119* Willis street, that the urgent necessity for work for -women is being forgotten, or at least! overlooked.

Mrs. G. Hunter, tho hon. secretary of tho bureau-, who has spent time and effort in helping the women whft tone to the bureau, wishes to remind employers oi tho larga number of women and girls Owgffls sine* Christmas) who have no work. What evwyone, knows is that thet« ia no Goverumeat assist- ' ance for these people, and it is, left to I private effort to provide then* with | | food and lodging. The fact that so many unemployed women nave shown igreat determination to keep off "charitable aid" i 9 greatly to their credit,. I aatf Mrs* Hunter asd ker assistants axe| I most anxious that work should fefi [forthcoming for them. Th* question, may be asked? "'What sort of -^ork? 11 but that qan. be answered by ringing- up Mrs. Hunter (telephone 54-582^ or | calling at 119, Willis street, and asking her.' The holidays are over, so far as the. public ones; are concerned,, and those who. are returning ta town and have all sorts of odd jobs in their homes requiring attention may obtain efficient and. recommended, help by applying to the bureau. As, Mrs. Hunter has had but one application, from an employer this month, sh«~ hopes that "Wellington women will take thought at once, and see where, they can assist those in distress. A reminder may also be given about the i shop" in. Willis street, which is. getting I over-full of saleable articles, sweets, food, clothing, little giftSj etc., all mado by people- who urgently wish, feo support themselves. if most women would look in there and see Jf .their wants cannot be met, at least once a week, it would be an. immense; help. It is hoped that this appeal will aot.be ia vain.
