Mr. J. T. Grose, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, has received a' cablegram from the London Board of Directors expressing deepest sympathy with tho stricken inhabitant* of tho areas affcored and authorising the-contribution of £.'IOOO to the relief funds.
The Bank of New South Wales has received'the following message from the general manager, Mr. A. C. Davidson (Sydney):"Please convey to the Prime Minister and to .the Mayors of the injured towns tli,e deepest sympathy of the bank, its directors,' and oflleors for those who have suffered personally or materially. Such disasters are a setback to all of us, and not alone to the people of the Dominion. Please keep me advised as to the ways in which the bank or its oflicers can be of assistance either in a national or local way, as this bank has been associated with the fortunos of the Do-, minion since June, 1861." The bank has.donated £1000 to the Prime Minister's fund.
Thenfollowing cablegram was' received this morning, from London, by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand: "President and executive of federation of Chambers of Commerce of British Empire express their vory deepest sympathy 'in the terrible calamity which ha 3 befallen New Zealand and particularly with the bereaved and stricken- communities of Napier and Hastings. (Signed) Leigh, Secretary." Tho following telegram has been received by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce from .Mr. Herbert Scott, president of the London Chamber of Commerce:—''Members London Chamber Commerce greatly distressed news destruction life and property owing earthquake disaster Napier and suiTounding districts, and *f£er deepest sympathy sufferers." ■ ■'.■■"' . . The secretary of the Wellington Master Carriers' Association (Mr.: Frank Ross) reports that at a meeting of the association held last night the association docided to assist those in the area stricken by the earthquake disaster by placing their motor-lorries and drivers at the disposal of the Government. Mr. John E. Hunt, president of tho New Zealand Coach and Motor Body Builders' Federation, reports the receipt of tho following cablegram from Mr. A. Bishop, secretary of Australian Bodybuilders' Association:—"Convoy deepest sympathy in national calamity from Australian Bodybuilders' Association." The Wellington branch of the Hotel Workers' Federation has donated £100 for tho relief of hotel -workers in the Hawkes Bay district.
