A new terror has been added to rural life by an ingenious Frenchman who is the proud owner of a cherry orchard. He has installed a scarecrow, fitted with a loud sneaker, and lias connected this with his wireless set, which operates when he is not using it for his own amusement. The effect has exceeded all his expectations. He reports that the birds, having listened to speeches, lectures, and. enormous volnraes of assortedmusic,: have now entirely deserted his orchard. '■
