ATTEMPTED REVOLT •

INSTIGATORS IMPRISONED

BUENOS AIRES, 21st September.

Reports were current on Monday that a revolt had broken out in Concepcion, in Southern Chile, against the Government of President Carlos Ibancz.

SANTIAGO, 22nd September.

A Chilo Government communique issued to-day states that the attempted revolt at Concepcion on Sunday was frustrated, and tho instigators were imprisoned.

General Carlos Ibanez was elected President of Chile on 22nd May, 1927, and ,was inaugurated in the July following, the term of ofneo being six years. Chile is one of tho most prosperous of the Republics of Latin America, with inexhaustible mineral reaourccs, and the population of about four millions and a quarter is chiefly of European origin. The British capital invested in the country was over £100,----000,000 iii 1925. Chile throw off the Spanish yoke in 1810-18, and in 1833 adopted a highly centralised constitution, which was superseded by a greatly liberalised constitution in 1925. Tho later constitution was drafted by President Alessandri, and' adopted by a tremendous majority in a referendum.
