WORKSHOP FOR BOYS
A' GENEROUS GIFT'
The announcement was made at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Boys' Institute last overling that Lady Bell had made a donation of £350 to the institute, to ©quip a carpente-rs' wpikshop. The gift has been made by Lady Bell in memory of her son, the late Ernest Dillon Bell. . . , •'
The Management Committee, in expressing appreciation of the gift, states that for many years it has had under consideration the provision of such a workshop, but, owing to the lack of necessary funds, it has not been possible to carry out the work. The difficulty having now been overborne by the gift of Lady Bell, steps are being taken to have the workshop equipped at an early date. i
It is explained by the committee that there is no intention to encroach on any of the existing organisations, such as "the Technical College, in the matter of training. The new workshop will be nsed as a room in which boys may become familiar with the elements of woodwork, and the caro and use of the tools and equipment provided. It is intended to make the workshop bright and attractive. The most important feature- of the department will be its use as a vocational centre, and it is anticipated that it will be the means of assisting many boys to take up a calling which they may wish to adopt. The desire of the committee is that the vocational side of the institute's activities should be extended, and it is hoped that in'the near future other workshops will be established, providing, of course,1 the necessary finance is available. The name of the new workshop will bo the."Ernest Dillon 801 l Memorial Carpenters? Workshop."
