WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL ELECTION. WEDNESDAY, 26th APRIL, 1911. JOHN FULLER, JUN.'S, CANDIDATURE. TO THE ELECTORS OF WELLINGTON. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— In in-A-i traducing myself to you, and in asking you to support my candidature for a seat on the Council. I feel I am thoroughly qualified to itako part in the City's affairs, having closely . btudicd them for years. I have an extensive business throughout New Zealand, and am a large property-holde-r in Wellington, being a partner in the firm of John Fuller and Sons. I NO AXE TO GRIND, and have plenty of spare time. As the City of Wellington has done well for me, it is my sincere desire to do all 1 can. For the City and its inhabitants, and I respectfully claim a vote from all who seek Careful, Honest, and Progressive Administration. I take tlu's opportunity of briefly placing my views before you : — It will be my endeavour — (1) To at all times place the interests of citizens first. (2) To obtain a Reduction of Rates, and in any case to oppose any increase. _ (3) To obtain a more convenient tramway service, and a thorough enquiry as to its improvement, with a view to securing a greater use of cars afc no increase in cost. (4) To prevent the passing of any Bylaws tending to undue restraint' of the progress of the City -and its trade. (5) To avoid- Star Chamber methods of conducting the citizens' business. (6) To secure Municipal Markets for free and unrestricted competitive trading for the benefit of the community as a whole. / In conclusion, you may rest assured .that I will "speak plainly," and should necessity" arise "hit "straight from, the shoulder," for my, position is one of Absof lute Independence, and the welfare of the citizens will come before any other consideration. I believe I may justly claim to bo a thorough business man, and I confidently seek your support. — Yours faithfully, JOHN FULLER, JUN. TO THE ELECTORS" OF THE MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF WELLINGTON. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN, JLJ I beg to announce that I am offering myself as 'an Independent and Progressive Candidate for a seat in th« Wellington CSty Council. I noticed in a leader in a morning paper that it was stated that some of tho candidates appear to be holding ba<ck their views. I think that when a new Candidate comes forward for the first time and asks for tho support of the electors in a Municipal Election, the position is not the same ac in an election for Parliamentary honours, and therefore he should not be required to state in detail what policy he wiil follow. _ After having been elected and serving a term and watching the interests of the electors, a Councillor is then in a position to utato what is right or wro»g. Until ,he gets acquainted with the inner working of municipal affairs it is impossible for a new man to state in detail what measures he will support for the good of "ihe City. I have been 35 years in Wellington, and so far, as a business man, everything I have undertaken, has turned out satisfactorily to all parties concerned. Any business man who has lived such a time in Wellington, ought to be of some use in furthering the welfare of the community. If elected, I will endeavour to do my best, and use all my ability in furthering the true .interests of the lOity. I have in the past frequently been requested to allow myself to be nominated for election, but owing to pressure of business I could not devote the time necessary for the faithful attention ,to public duties which a public position rightly demands. However, lam now enabled to use my spa\e time and energy (which I think is the duty of every citizen) to promote the progress of ,our City. In conclusion, if elected. I shall do my best to support all progressive measures for the good of one and all. • Yours faithfully, - . JOSEPH MANDEL. MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OF MIRAMAR.
