SWIMMING SEASON
"WIND/OP" CONCERT. The Swifts Swimming Club held its annual smoke concert at Godber's, Cubaetreet, last evening. "There was a splendid muster of enthusiasts. After the loyal toast, Mr. W. Skegg proposed theprincipal toast of the evening, that of the, New Zealand Swimming Association, coupled with the name of Mr. G. S. Hill, chairman of the local centre. Ho specially congratulated the Centre oil the unqualified success of tho championship meeting. The centre, he said, had always shown consideration to the various ;lubs, and in this connection the Swifts Club owed the success of this year's carnival to the kindness of the Centre. Mr. Hill responded, saying that everybody appeared satisfied with the championship carnival ; the Centre had done its best. In reference to local carnivals, hfe said, that in future it appeared that they would not be able to hold so many, and an arrangement would have to be cometo with the city authorities. As th« number of clubs increased so -did the carnivals, and this could not go on indefinite" y. Mr. E. S. Forne proposed "Sister Clubs" laying Gtress.on the fact that the Waited' and Hall Cup' was going to do a, lot for swimming. The toast was uosponded to by Messrs. O'Meara (Wellington), Brice (Thorndon), Hanina (V.M.C.A.), Silver (Worser Bay). Other toaete honoured were "The Captain" (Mr. Frank Wilton), by Mr. W. Skegg ; "The Royal Life-Saving Society" by Mi*. " Fleming, responded to by Mr. W. G. Morpeth ; "The Ladies' Branch," by Mr. Pollock, and responded to by Mr. F. Wilton, and "The Press." Mr. J. Fleming, who presided over the gathering presented the numerous prizes won during the season. During the evening various musical items were given.
