The Russian official Press deny that Port Lazareff has been occupied by Russia. France threatens to cease relations with the Vatican if a Nuncio is sent to China.
It is reported that Germany has annexed the greater portion of Patagonia.
' The Servian Government deny that they are preparing for an attack updn Bulgaria.
M. De Giers, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has expressed his painful surprise at Karl Roseberry’s accusation that the Russian action respecting Batoum was a violation of the Berlin Treaty. August 29. The Texan journalist who was recently captured by the Mexicans has been released.
M, de Freycinot has forbidden General Boulanger to inspect the frontier during the German manoeuvres.
Constantinople, August 22.
Prince Alexander, of Bulgaria, was taken prisoner yesterday at Widdin while holding a review of tho troops. His deposition has since been proclaimed, and a temporary Government been formed by MM. Zaukoff and Greskoff (President of the Council ot Ministers), who had authorised the arrest and deposition. When seized the Prince resigned quietly and without resistance. No bloodshed occurred. He has since been escorted out of tho country. The event bas created a sensation at Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, and masses of the people have on bended knee publicly implored the goodwill of the Czar of Russia.
The Russian agent at Sofia has assured the populace of the good feeling of His Majesty towards Bulgaria.

The proclamation which has been issued by the Provisional Government of Bulgaria invokes the protection of lha Czar for the people of that country. The * Times ’ regards the deposition of Prince Alexander as a triumph of Russian diplomacy and a reverse of English. M. Clement, of Bulgaria, proclaims that Prince Alexander has renounced tho throne, and states that the crime of which he was convicted was fatal to the nation.
The National Assembly has been convened.
The Sultan will refer tha situation to the Powers-
The regiments which were devoted to Prince Alexandra were absent at Slivnitza.
The Berlin ‘ Post ’ is of opinion that the revolution will result in peace being pro moted, and that Austria will not quarrel with Russia regarding a successor to Prince Alexandra,
Berlin, August 23,
The semi official Berlin Post, the organ of Prince Bismarck, expresses the opinion that the deposition of Prince Alexander solves the situation in Eastern Europe, which has become one of danger ‘to Austria and Germany. Turkey, it states, will acquiesce in the Prince’s deposition. The Post farther maintains that the event frustrates England’s hope that the solution of tbe Eastern question can be secured by a duel between Austria and Russia and without any sacrifice on her part. Constantinople, August 24.
Prince Alexander of Bulgaria is being removed to Bucharest, the capital of Roumania. Symptoms of a revulsion of feeling in favour of the deposed Prince are being manifested by the Bulgarian army, London, August 24.
There is a suspicion prevalent that Austria and Germany are privy to the resolution of Turkey in taking vigorous military measures.
St. Petersburg, August 23.
The Novosti, referring to the crisis, states it is probable that Russia will pursue a course of direct intervention with a view to the establishment of a new regime in Bulgaria.
