Cambrians »of ir cannot be accused of the apathy displayed by many country places in the matter of school committee elections, for on Thursday evening last, L4ih msc., when the second election of c unmittee - ordered by the Education Board—too.i place, a very large number ot the-residents put in an appearance. Since the last election was declared invali 1, party feeling ap« pears to have gathered strength, as great int resfc was displayed, the result beiii: that 49 male and one female householder recorded their votes, Mr John Ewing oo-cupi-’d the chair, with Messrs Wit iams and Clnnie as scrutineers. After a very careful ballot, the following gentlemen were declared I y the Chairman elected : Mr C. Dangey, 53 ; S McCullough, 52 ; Mr Citrine. 5D ; J. Teague, 49 ; T. Hughes, 42 ; W. Williams, 33 ;J. Griffi-ht, 3t. A luge number attended the meeting who were not entitled to vote, as a report got abroad that the meeting would be anything but a quiet one, Howeve-, everything passed <ff i-r good order. At a meeting of the committee held irnmedietely after the election, Mr W. Clunio was r leete Ich tirman for the year, Mr Williams clerk, and Mr T. Hughes treasurer.

Considerable dissatisfaction is exo'essel by miners in Vinegar Hib and neighbourhood at the action of Mr Warden Woo l in recommending the grant of a special claim to Mr J. Nicholson in opposition to the expressed wishes of the miners, also to tire rant that a piece of ground was taken from Thrrrlow an 1 party and included in this grant A public meeting was held here about a week ago to consid<r the whole mai ter which was, after considerable discussion, adjourned un it last Saturday evening, whm * memorial was read and approved of by lire meeting, for presentation to the Minister of Mines on the matter. A resolution was also unanimously passed thanking the member for lire District, Mr J. S. McKenzie, for his assistance in investigating the matter. The weather is very changeable, not two days being alike, in fact, during tire course of one week we have all sorts of weather. Miners, however, are pleniifuhy sum lied with water, so that description of work is in full swing. In other works, however, not much is doing.
