DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Trustees was held in the Committee Room, Town Hall, on Mondry evening last, the 7th inst.
Present s Messrs J. Hichson (Chairman). Macgeorge, Jeffery, Joss, Crawford, and J. E. Stevens (Treasurer), The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence were read, received, and adopted. The Visiting Committee reported having visited the Institution daring the month on occasions, and found everything satisfactory. Accounts for salaries and supplies and repairs for the past month amounting to L6B las 3d, and on account of water supply L3l 13s 2d, were passed for payment. The Treasurer laid on the table the balance sheet up to 31st March last, aa audited by Mr H. Livingstone, the Government Auditor, showing at that date a balance in bank of LIOG 14s 2d.
The Treasurer also brought up his report for term ending 3Ut May, which showed assets, including subsidy- due, I 310 155,and liabilities, accounts unpaid, LG6 15s 3 The reports were read and received, and it was resolved that a copy of the audited report he sent to the D’strict Board. Accounts, due by discharged patients were ordered to be ren iered. The.Chairinan said as W. Fraser, Esq , one of the 'Trustees, was- about visiting ■Wellington in h-s capacity as County Chairman, it wonld be advisable, he thought, to appoint that gentleman as a delegate from this Board to wait on the Premier and act iu concert with other dele* pates in obtaining payment of subsidy due under subsection 3 of section 58 of the Hasoitals and Ch-aiitoble Institutions Act, 18S5”, Resolved —Thit W, Pm c er, Esq., be appointed a delegate from this Board to act in "concert with the delegates from other Boards in endeavoring to obtain payment of fulsddy dne under the third sab-f-ertian of section 58 of the “ Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, ISB>.” The Chairman drew attention to a paragraph iu the ‘ Evening Heralds ’ report of the last meeting of th-t Benevolent Institu ti-ui Trustees, wherein Mr Hutchinson strongly animadverted on the conduct «.f the “ authorities at Clyde for sending down to the Institution an old man named Adams in rely to linger and die.” Ha (the Cliarniiin) resented any such reflections being cast on the Trustees. According to the report of Dr Lewi*, the man, though old, wa* not a lit an l pet for a Hospital, and moreover, desired to be sent to the Benevo* lent institution; and further, that he was in a fit state t,i undertake the journey. Ha (the speaker), while regretting that the poor man had so quickly died, he did not see that the. Trustees we;e to blame in the matter the more especially as Dr Lewis accompanie I th a man to Caversham. He -would suggest that the Chairman of the Be-ievoiert Instin-’ioti be made acquainted with the whole facts of the case.
Mr Macgeorgj ani MrStevans concurring in the Chairman’s remarks, it was resolved —That the Secretary write in accord therewith.
The further consideration of the bye-laws ■were gone into, and even-ualy they were adopted and ordered to bn printed in pamphlet form.
