A SUCCESSFUL SURGICAL OPERATION. Toe American Ambassador at Vienna, Mr Kasson, has lately (orwarded to hU Government an interesting account of a reua katile surgical operation lately performed by Professor Bilhotb, of Vienna, wtuch, wonderful to tell, consisted in the removal of a portion of the human stomach, involving near.y one third of tne organ—and, strange to say, thep tieut recovered—the only successful operatiou of the kind ever performed. The disease for which this operatiou was performed' was cancer of the stomach, attended with the following symtoms : The appetite is quite poor. There is a peculiar indescribable distress in the stomach, a feel ing that has been described as a faint “all gone" sensation; a sticky slime collects about the teeth, especial'} in the morning, accompanied by an unpleasant ta-te. Foo ; fails to satisfy this peculiar faint sensation ; but, on t eco diary, it appears to aggravate the feeliug. The eyes are sunken, tinged with yellow; the haddsand leet become cold and sticky—a cold perspiration. The .-offer era feel tired all the tune, and sleep does not seem to give rest. After a time the patient becomes nervous and irritab e, gloomy his mind being filled with “vil fore bodings. When rising suddenly from arecum mut position there is a dizzme s, a whist ing sensation, and he is obliged to grasp something firm to keep from falling, I’Ue bards costive, die skin d.y and hot at times ; the olood becoming thick ami stagnant, and does not circulate p operly. After a time the patient spits up food »oo after eating, sometimes in a sour aud fermented condition, sometimes sweetish to the taste. Oftentimes there is a palpitation of the heart, and the patient tears he may have heart disease. Towards the last the patient is unable to retain any food wha ever, as the opening in the intestine, •lecornes close, or nea-ly so. Although this disease is indeed alarming, sufferers with t ie above named symptoms should n >t feei nervous, for nine hundred an I ninety nine cases out of a thousand have no cancer, but simply dyspepsia, a disease easily removed if treated iu a proper manner. The safest aud b»st remedy for the uisease is Seigel s Curative Syrup, a vegetable preparation sold by all chemists and medicine vendors, and by the proprietors, A. J White, (Limited), London, England. Tills Syrup strikes at the very foundation of the d sense, aud drives it out, root aud branch, out of the system. Waterloo Hou'o, London 'tile, Chiswick, February 17, 1882. Messrs. White aud Co , Loudon Gentlemen,—it is with great pleasure that I add my tes imony to the wonderful effects of “Seigel’u Syrup.” For years 1 have been suffering from biious attacksc which began with giddiness ; then a mist would oornt before my eyes, so that I should not be able to recognise anyone, or anything at ad stance at a yard or two from my lace. This would be followed by exces-ive trembling of my knees, so th 11 could not stand without support; after which a severe headache would occur lasting over two or three days I have tried variou- remedies for these distressing symptoms, but until 1 tried “Setgei’s Syrup” I had no relief. Since then 1 have have had exceent health ine evei y respect, and if ever I fed a headache coming on I take one dose of the Syrup, which arrests it. Hoping that t is t etimonial may be the means of inducing others (who suffer as I used) to try tie Syrup, as I feel sure ;aey will receive speedy beoelit aud ultimately be c ired, 1 beg to remain, yours faithfully.
A. H. flortnk. September 8 th, ISS.'t Dear Sir, —1 find the sale of Sogel’s Syrup steadily increasing. All who Uava tried it speaks very highly of its medicinal virtues; one customer describes it as a “Godsend to dyspeptic people.” 1 always recommend it wi hj coali lence. Faithfully yours, (Signed) Vincent A. Wills, Cbemis -dentist, To Mr A. J. White, Merthyr Tydvil.
