London, April 7. Earl Dufferin held a durbar to«day at B iwai Pindi, the ceremony was of a splendid character, and was largely attended by influential Native Princes. The Ameer of Afghanistan made a speech, in which he expressed his gratitude to the Queen for favours, and statsd that the Afghans would join firmly with the British in resisting any external enemies.
It is reported that Lord Roseberry (?) requests the mediation of Prince Bismark between Russia ami England in regard to the settlement of the Afghan difficulty. The Standard conddera that the position of affairs is very critical. The Prince and Princess of Wales and Prince Albert Victor reached Dublin today. Their Royal Highnesses were met on arrival by a vast crowd of people who displayed much Loyal enthusiasm. The Coldstream Guards and Colonial troops advanced this afternoon from the zareeba situated five miles to Handoub and on arrival there formed a fresh zateeba and are now in occupation of the position. A few of the enemy were seen by the force neat Handoub but no fighting with them took place.
The Soots Guard proceed to Handoub tomorrow to join the Coldstreams and Au«« trahans, and the rest of the troops now here intended for the advance in 'force will he despatched to Handoub gradually.
Re orits from Handoub state that the troops have found quantities of water there ■ut tt is entirely brackish and unfit for drinking.
