Diseased Nature ottenumes breaks forth in strange eruptions.”—A.ct iii, Scene 1. TO THE PUBLIC. SOME patients suffering from nervous affections are afraid from sheer bashfulness and modesty to personally consult a medical man—other patients have not the self possession and coolness when in the consulting room, to accurately describe theirsymptouis—their habits of life, and the nature of the disease they suffer bom. Let such persons (he or she) sit quietly down in the privacy of thenown apartments, and with calm minds describe clearly each symptom of thencase, a clear statement thus written, and laid before mo, is far preferable in nervous diseases to a personal consultation. Where, however, a disease is of a peculiar and exceptional character, a personal consultation may become necessary; but my success in correspondence is so great, that of the thousands upon thousands whom I have treated by letter during the last 32 y ears, not a single mistake has over occurred, not a case has ever been made public—in fact, the very simplicity of ray system of correspondence prevents publicity. At the same time medicines are sent to my patients in such a form as to defy detection. How many thousands have I not brought joy to? How many have been enabled to enter into the marriage state through consulting me 1 How many after marriage have pri vately consulted me and been blessed, and their married lives made fruitful and happy. How many wasted ruined yonths of both sexes have also been restored to health, and thanked their manhood for having consulted me by letter. How many questions arise where the family physician is unable to unravel the case, and where often the patient lingers on, not daring to tell his family medical adviser the nature of his complaint, until consumption wasting, or mental diseases set in, and the sufferer gets beyond the curable stage, and is left a hopeless Wreck. A letter written in the privacy of the room and dropped into the post box reaches me quietly ; the answer is returned as quietly and uuostenta* tiously, and the patient, without stepping from las chamber, except to post his letter, is by return of post put in full possession of the us cure of his case. His hopes arc raised, his doubts removed, and ho is comparatively a new man; in fact, in many c.ses, a new being altogether. The only addition to the ordinary written letter is the age, occupation, habits and symptoms, nothing more. Hie usual consultation fee of LI (one i pound) must he encased, otherwise no answer will bo leturned. There are thousands of cases in daily life where a consultation with one at a distance, will remove by a single letter, a great fear, a great care, ami it often solves what appears as an impenetrable mystery. Many a sad heart lias been made joyfut on receipt of mi explanatory note from me. To those who are about to marry I would say consult me before doing so, and thus prevent many after troubles, and remove many unnecessary fears and prejudices ; to those, more especially who have suffered in early years from disease, or who have yielded to their passions. To these I say, at once, consult with me, do nob tarry, delays are dangerous, and as an export, my time may not always be at your service, you can, by simply enclosing one pound, have the benefit of ray experience in the same manner as if i lived in your own town, and will) the additional advantage of thorough privacy.—Yours, truly, LOUIS L. SMITH.
