ALEXANDRA SCHOOL.

The annual meeting ot householders of the Alexandra School district was held in the school room on Monday last. Mr M‘l onald was elected Chairman of the meeting. The following report of the ra’iring Commi!tee was adopted on the motion of Mr Finlay . In retiring from office your Committee beg to submit their report and balancesheet for the past year. They have much pleasure in being able to report that the teachers hive given general satisfaction as evidenced by the Inspector’s report of t ie recent examination. when the very satisfactory percentage of 87 was obtained. The number of scholars on the roll at the commencement of the year was 88 Entered during the year 33 Left during the year 38 Number on roll at end of year ... 83 The average attendance for the March quarter .. .. 81 The average attendance fur the June quarter .. 74 7 The average attendance for the Sep* (ember quarter .. 76.4 The average attendance for the December quarter .. 57.7 The reison of the small attendance during the Inst quarter was the groat amount of sickness prevailing in the distriot at the time, the Committee being compelled to close the school fur a fortnight for the same r ason. Your Committee desire again to call the attention of paren s to the low average attendant-! throughout the year, and wool I r< commend their socc sso a to put the compn sory o’aiise of the Act stric ly in force, should the attendance not impiove. The Committee commenced the year with a balance of 12 16s lid, and leave a balance of L 4 8- 5 I to their successors. gates, which were cn c o l in the early part of the year ; ami L 3 tor; lining the eaves of the new building, for the purpose ofp.eventing the sparrows from entering beneath the roof. The Committee have also reereoted the dividing fence between the Manse and school grounds, and levelled and drained the playground, for which thunks are due to Mr Allan for his gratuitous services.

During October a concert was given to raise funds for school prizes, bnt in cense qnence of the small attendance through sickness your Committee decided to hand the balance, 1 8 17a 61, to their successors, and suggest that it be expended during February, In resigning their trust, your Committehope that the school will have a prosper - ous session,

Twelve householders were nominated to serve on the Committee for the ensuing year, and the following were elected : Messrs H. D. Willcox, R. Finlay, W. They era, G. Is. M ‘Donald, T. Brown, J. Rivers, and J. Allan.
