The .Southland News gives the following information with regard to the state of the Win ton-Kingston line. The ends of the Mataura bridge, 51 miles 82 chains from Winton, have gone, and the bridge is seriously damaged. Another bridge at 51 miles 70 chains has been greatly injured. At 52 miles the line is badly washed away, and impassable for a trolley. The approaches to the bridge ten miles from Kingston are washed away. At 59 miles 28 chains from Winton the line is destroyed for some diatance. Not far away from this point, a ditch alongside the railway which was Gft wide before the flood, is now over a chain wide. At 64 miles 24 chains there was over 2£t of water on top of the rails on Friday evening, and the line is clean washed away from 66 miles 20 chains to fiß miles 14 chains. The water on the day named was level with the platform at Kingston, and it had been lft over it ; there was 4ft of water in the station-master's house, the doors and windows of the buildinghad been broken, and the outhouse washed away. It is expected that such repairs will be effected on the line between Kingston and Fairlight in seven days as to allow traffic to be resumed by the end of that time, but it is feared that the line between Fairlight and Athol will not be restored for three weeks.
