LOVELLS FLAT SCHOOL.
The annual examination of the Lovells Flat school was held in the schoolhouse on Tuesday last. The examination was conducted by the Rev. John M'Ara, assisted by Mr James Guthrie, teacher, Moa Flat. Several members of tlie Committee and parents of children attending the school were present. After a most searching examination, the following prizes were awarded : —
My First Book: Reading — Agnes Bowie, Ist.
My Second Book : Reauing — Margaret Dunlop, Ist ; Annie Robson, 2nd. Arithmetic—John Bowie, Ist. Highest number of marks in class — John Bowie.
No. 1 Sequel : Reading and Spelling — Jessie Nelson, --Ist ; Arithmetic— James Nelson, Ist ; Writing — Grace Dunlop, Ist. Highest number of marks in class— Grace Dunlop
No. 2 Sequel : Reading and Spelling — Allan M'Donald, Ist ; John Carmichael, 2nd. Arithmetic— John M'Donald, Ist ; Writing — Margt. Youngson, Ist. Highest number of marks in class — Allan M'Donald.
No. 3 Book : Reading and Spelling — Fred Twemlow, lsfc ; . Arithmetic — Fred Twemlow, Ist ; Grammar and Geography — Mary Anderson, Ist; Writing — Margt. M'Donald, Ist. Highest number of marks in class— Mary Jane Woods.
No. 4 Book : Reading and Spelling — William M'Rae, Ist ; Arithmetic — Wm. M'Rae, Ist ; Grammar and Geography — Mary Jane M'Donald, Ist ; Writing — Mary Jane M-Donald. Highest number of marks in class — Wm. Yonngson.
No. 5 Boole : Reading and Spelling — Emily S. Twenilow, Ist ; Letitia Todd, 2nd. Arithmetic — Isabella Carmichaelj Ist ; Geography — Peter Nelson, Ist ; Dictation and Reproduction — Neil Anderson, Ist ; Grammar — Archibald Dunlop, Ist ; Writing— Emily S. Twemlow, Ist ; Drawing— Neil Anderson, Ist ; Emily S. Twemlow, 2nd. Highest number of marks in class — Emily S. Twemlow. Special prize presented by Mr Frederick Twemlow to the pupil that had made the greatest progress and had given the least trouble to the teacher — Archibald Dunlop. Mr M* Ara having distributed the x>rizes, said that he was well pleased with the way the children had acquitted themselves in their examination, and was glad to see the Committee and so many of the parents present, thereby showing that they took an interest in the welfare of the school. He then called upon the children to give a hearty vote of thanks to the Committee for providing such handsome prizes as he had presented to them.
Mr C. Bowie, Chairman, on behalf of the Committee, thanked Mr M'Ara for the trouble he had taken in coming to examine the school. He announced that the holidays would commence next day, and last four weeks.
After the children, led by Mr Younson, teacher, had sung some hymns in a very creditable manner, the school dispersed till after the holidays.
