Watersiders Serve Claim On M.P.
BLENHEIM, Nov. 30. A claim in the Magistrate 's Court ior £100 for alleged slander has been sferved on Mr. T. P. Shand, the Nationai candidate for Marlborough, from f'our officials of the Auckland branch of the Watersider Workers' Union. The summons arises from an address by Mr. Shand in May at Auckland, it is alleged that in reply to a statement tiiat certain officials of the union were elected democratieally by secret baliot> Mr. Shand used the words whieh foxm the subjeet of the plaint. The plaintiffs are: P. W. Archer (returning offieer), W. H. Hewett/ B. D. Owen and L. S. Smith (all serutineers), who claim that the alleged statement has injured their charaeter and reputation. In the course of an address last night, Mr. Shand said he had received the summons and that he would have great pleasure in fighting it.
