Arrivals from Chengtu, the new Nationalist capital 170 miles northwest of . Chungking, state that the city is cairn. Barricades are Being erected in the streets. The Nationalist central news agency claimed tonight that Nationalist troops recapt,ured Kwangsi, the inland port of Wuchow, three days ago. It added that Nationalist aircraft - blasted the Communists retreating from the Wuchow area as the ground forces j under General Pai Chungsi continued counter-attacking at several points in western KwangSi. The agency quoted tmconfirmed reports as saying that . the Nationalists h&d re-entered Wulchow, the -provincial capital of Kwangsi, 80 miles south of Kweilin. The agency also reported that the r Communists are attempting to Ibuild a fleet 1000 strong of vesSels ! of all types. Reliable sources hint that the Communists are preparing _ to jlaunch an all-out offensive against the Chusan group of isiands from ' where they hope to attack Formosa.
