Poroutawhao Institute's Meeting

There was a large attendance at the October meeting of the Poroutawhao Institute, over which Mrs. A. Scott presided. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. G. Vickers. The motto, forwarded by Mrs. I. Taylor, was: "Happiness consists not in possessing much but in being content with wh'at we possess." Arrangements were made for the children's Christmas party, members being reminded to each bring a competition or game. The -guest speaker was Mrs C. S. Keedwell and at the conelusion of her talk she was thanked and presented with a floral spray by Mrs. Scott. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Sloan and Ramsay. Campetitions resulted as foilows: — Bloom: Mrs. Penny 1, Mrs. Speirs 2, Mrs. Ramsay 3. Shrub: Mrs. Scott 1, Mrs. Lumsden 2, Mesdames Speirs and McLennan 3 (equal). Vegetatle: Mesdames Speirs and Easton 1 (equal), Mrs. Sloan 3. A competition arranged by Mrs. S. Lumsden was won by Mrs. McLennan.
