France Calls For Currency Conference
Received Sundav, 7 p.m. PARIS, Oct. 1. After meeting for 61 hours, the French Cabinet tonight reached an agreement on wages and pric-es — the issue which threatened to overthrow Prime Minister Queuille's Coalition Government. Immediately after the meeting Cabinet issued a eommunique ?tating that France would ask for an international currency and eeono'mie conference in an effort to solve the whole European cost of living problem. Cabinet decided to cut the priee of butter, macaroni, coal, electricity, textiles and leather, tighten control of traders' stocks and profits and reestablish a free discussion of collective r^ages agreements under Government arbitration. The eommunique calling for the currency conference, said France decided to inform the Governments of Europe of the necessity for a conference to ensure Europe 's monetary order and economic stability. A Government spokesman said the conference would probably be within the framework of the Organisation for European Economic Cooperation.
