Another Coal Mine Bought By State
WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The Linton Goal ■ Gompany, Southlancl, has been 'purchased by the Governffient, which entered -into . possession to-day, shid the Minister of Mines (Mr. McLagan),-in a statement released tonight.' The mine is situated at Ohai ;an,d containg.at least 2^,miliion tons of unworked coal, some of which ean be won byopencast methods. The Linton mine is the largest mine in the Ohai distriet said the Minister, and its purchase completes ownership by the State of all the important mines in the Ohai field. Ineluded in the purchase is the company's wholesale and retail business in Invercargill. The purchase price was £127,500. .
