Athletic Club Making Early Start With Season
. — — The Levin Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club depidefi on an earlier start for the season this year in order to give its active members a chance to train for tit e radfes which may lead to nomination for participatiqn in the E.mpire Games. Normally the opening night has been the first Monday in November, but this year it was decided tb hold it bn- October 17. The proceeds bf the firsi; night will be devoted to the Levin St. John Ambulance Brigade. Tfie ciub. Mways believed in making the first night a b^nefit night, last year's being devoted tb the. Heahh Stamp Oampaign, said ' the president', Mr. W. Cribb. He cou d . think of no better or deserving cause than the one suggested that nightrr-the St. John Brigade. When put to vote the suggestion was carried _qnanimousiy. On behalf of the Levin Mnnicip'al Band, Mr. H. Ohurch asked. the meeting if it would consider taking out debentures whicfi the band was issuipg ghortly to cover the cost of new band instruments, It was merely a question of a .oan without interest. • 'Mr. E. J. Stanley said that he thought the band might better appreciate a benefit night such as the one for the St. John Brigade. In fact he believed that it might be a good ' ifiea if benefit nights were held at intervals during the season. It was decided that a, benefit night for the band be held some time during the season and lacer ih the proceedings that the club also 'take out two debentures to further assist the band. It was decided that no alteration would be made this year in the subscription fees for members. Mr. W. Cribb was, re-eiected president of the club.
