To Ask For Increase In Price Of Bread

r WELLINGTON, Sept.. 5. Bakers are to ask for an increase in the price of bread. An application for an increase has been lodged with the Price Tribunal by the New Zealand Federation of Bakers and Pastryeooks. The tribunal is to hold a publie sitting on the application* in Wellington. The wholesale price of the standard 21b loaf, 5d, has not been inereased since 1936, according to a prominent master baker. The present application for an increase is based on the general increase in costs since that time. There have, however, been two subsidies on flour designed to olfset wage increases in the industry. There have also been increases in the price of retail delivered bread. The retail price now stands at 5M for a standard 21b loaf. The Price 'Controi Division and secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Bakers and Pastryeooks, Mr. C. JR. Burrows, declined to, state today what increase will be applied for.
