Otaki's War Memorial
Sir, — With reference to Otaki's War Memorial, may I ask the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atiiiore, through your columns the foliowing quescions: — >• 1. How far has the War Memorial scheme progressed? 2. Are ratepayers to be consulted before a final decision is taken? 3. In the event of a scheme for a sports area being vested in the borough council, is it not a fact that the ratepayers will be rated to meet heavy recurring expenditure of maimenance, etc.? 4. Is there a possibility that much-promised support majf be withdrawn if the original scheme of a public Memorial Hall is dropped in favour of a sports area? 5. If the required aihount of money is not forthcoming will the ratepayers, through the council, be required to find the fcalance? Only very meagre reports of the War Memorial Committee's doings appear to have been made public and the above information would be of great interest to racepayers generaliy. Yours etc., "RATEPAYER." Otaki, July 11.
