Even Tough-tactics Course Experts Found Going Solid

Have you ever been forced to drive off with the ball perched on top of an 18-inch length of rubber hose? Sounds easy, doesn't it? But try it some time. Novelties such as this added spice to the servicemen's annual golf tournament, which was played off on Sunday and was wholeheartedly adjudged the highlight of the local season.
This was a day of golf with the " pressure off, everyone starting off from the flrst "tee" with a grin instead of the habitually worried expression. Two o'f the local diggers were in charge of a "road block" at the woolshed and most of the lads found this a very difffcult prob•lem, but with noted Kiwi fortitu'de they drew the enemy's fire and eventually consumed all the ammunition. It is impossible to select any particular people from a show like this, as it is only through the co-operation of the many that success is assured. All we can say is ■that there must have been lots of co-operation ! The trophies were good and plentiful, being very evenly distributed, and if those people who made donations for the purpose could have -seen the spirit of the whole function they wouM have considered themselves well pai'd. It was the servicemen's own day out. The Levin Golf Club had nothing to do with the arrangements apart from making the course available. The general

Ward; run-ners-up, D. E. Clark and E. Douds. Teams' match: P. Willis, E. Gray, E. Douds and S. Smith; runners-up, J. Corbishley, T. J. Coutie, F. Veysey andG. Barclay. Long drive: Z.
