Tke party of scienti^ts whieh. recently visited Fiordland liave been asked by .tke Minitser of .Intfernal Affairs (Mr. Parry) to furnisli a comprebensiye report on tkeir findings, but it will probably be some months before the result of their naturally extensive investigations is available. When it did come'to hand, said Mr. Parry today, the recommendations made by the scientists -would be sent to the appropriate Ministers so that action conld be taken for the preservation and betterment of Fiordland. "The problem of depredations by wapiti will be among the very important . aspects of the reports,'-' said Mr Parry, "and Dr. Clans J. Mnrie, leader of the expedition and a distinguished Ameriean wild life authority, will give the Government a very full report on wapiti, its population and its alleged ravages in the West' Coast Sounds distriet." Mr. Parry said the wild life branch of the Department was t.Voady controlling the expansion of wapiti, but it was eagerly looking forward to the recommendations of Dr. Murie and his eolleagues so that departmental officers might take even more effeetive steps in the direetion of seeing that the deer problem in Fiordland was kept strietly under control.
