Many Citizens Welcome New School Headmaster

+ An attendance of 80 citizens at, the Otaki State School on Thursday night tendered an enthusiastic and hospitable welcome to Mr. and Mrs. O. Yates, who have recently taken up residence at the schoolhouse. In introducing them, the chairman of the Home and School Association, which had arranged the welcome, assured Mr. and Mrs. Yates that they would find Otaki a happy community and wished them a long and pleasant stay. Mr. H. Taylor, chairman of the Otaki State School, Rev. R. Gfice, secretary of the Ministers' Association, and the Rev. P. Temuera, Maori padre, were other speakers who assured the guests they would be made especially welcome, and

expressed the hope that they would never regret the choice made in coming to Otaki. Mr. Yates was,given a vociferous welcome on rising to reply, and assured all that he and Mrs. Yates would do their best to foster happiness in their new sphere. He thanked all who had already made them feel really at home, and for the hospitality accorded them. The meeting opened with all singing the National Anthem, after which a pleasing programme was rendere'd with Mr. W. H. Townrow as compere. The Women's Institute singing circle, Miss D. Avery, Mrs. W. Duncan, Mr. Don C ark, Mr. W. H. Townrow and Mrs, H. Tews contributed a variety of pleasing items, which were generously applauded. Supper concluded a very pleasant evening.
