Cricket Competition Nears Interesting Climax
Weraroa's eight-point win over Paraparaumu in the senior cricket competition on Saturday brings that team to within two points of the leaders, Shannon. Shannon .beat Levin to secure a five-point win, thus allowing Weraroa to gainf three. points on last week's total. Ihe points to date stand at Shannon 83 and Weraroa 81. It is interesting "to note that Shannon has auffered defeat at the hands . of Levin on the two 'previous occasions on which these teams have met this season. On Saturday, Shannon had first use of the wicket and compiled 65 runs. Thomson (27) and Neile (16) were the only double-hgure scorers. ! Bowling for Weraroa, Galloway took three wickets for four runs, Hu'dson three for 1'7, Lambert two for 10,, Hoar one for 10 and Wells one for 12. - Levin only succeeded in making 46 runs, this in the main being due i to the devastating bowling of : Moore and Harris. The only double figure score was retuhied fcy GranI ger, who made 13. Harris took five j wickets for 22 runs and Moore four ifor 18.
Weraroa Beat Paraparaumu Weraroa had an outstanding *win over Paraparaumu, beating them by an innings and 54 runs. Battting first, Paraparaumu made 31 I runs, E. Weggery being the topscorer with 10. Saunders took four wickets for eight runs, O'Donnell four for 16 and De Castro two. for one. Highlight of the day was J. Ryder's knock for -82. - Other scores Were Hudson 33, Jukes 11 ahd Wilson (6). ' Weraroa then declared at 135 for four. Paraparaumu made a better ahowing on their second innings when they collected 50 runs. Evans made 14. DeCastro took five wickets for 12 runs, O'Donnell three for five and G. C. F^ance one for .20. Win For Old Boys College Old Boys beat the Oollege first eleven bv 43 runs when they met on the Levin Park Domain. College batted first, placing 102 runs on the board. Sciascia (20), Lange (18) and Julius (13) were the main run-getters. Hannan took four wickets for 14 runs, N. Sciascia three for six, Stevens two for 31 and Barraud one for 17 . Old Boys were eight wickets down for 145 at the end of the game. G. ! Sciascia and D. Clapcott e.ach made | 33, the latter retiring. A. Judd put j 14 on the board. Anfirews, took i three wickets for 33 runs.
