Those Shows Of Yesteryear
Many early residents who were at the show today must surely have cast back their thoughts to the days of the first of the Horowhenua Agriculturai and Pastoral Association's shows. At that time the event, which was of only one day's duration, was held on a Wednesday. The first show was on Wednesday,April 10, 1907. The first two-day show, on'a Wednesday and Thursday, was held in 1921.
* The various ciasses were wider in those days, there being poultry, vegetables and fodder and harness lorse ciasses. At' the first show there was an exhibition by the Weraroa Experimental -jstud Farm Df stud bulls, cows, horses and pigs. In the first shows there were 10 special pedigree ciasses, :these Deasts being included in the open fiasses. . ■ x Here are thp entrance figures for ;he first show in -1907: — Competitions 86, ponies 45, saddle horses
