AUUKLaND, Jan. 26. An Auckland resident and his daughter were both drowned on tlie East Coast just south of Cape Bretiy this afternoon. They were: — •TOHN LANE, aged about 42, married with two children, of Titirangi. BARBARA LANE. aged 10 years. The family went in their car for a picnic in the Rawhiti district and tliey decided to go for a swim. Barbara was caught in a strong undertow and swept out to sea. Iler father went to her; assistance but lie also was swept awayj The search was halted by darknessl but will be resumed at daylight to; morrow. This brings the number of drownings on the eoast between Whangarei' Heads and Cape Brett this summer, to six.
