AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. A Maori quarry worker received fatal injuries in an accident at a quarry near Hukerenui, North Auckland. .He was: JOHN BIRCH, aged 35, married with six children. Mr. Birch was instructed tp clear a belt driving an elevator. He apparently slipped into the beltiug as he was nexi seen caught and jaramed between a (pulley and the ground. The belt ^was wrapped round him several times and to free him it had to be eut away. In addition a hole had to be dug beneata the injured man before he could be taken out.- His left leg had been toru off and the right leg was broken in several places. He died on the way to hospital.
