UNION SECRETARY'S CAUSTIC REJOINDER.
WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. "Despite all that the president of the Wellington branch and National Couneil member of the Tramways ' Employees' Union (Mr. G. N. Amos) has to say, the instruction of the nnion's national executive was made in aceordanee with the provisions of the ruleS of the union, ' ' said the"' union 's national secretary (Mr. P. A. Hansen), replying tonight t6 the statement' by Mr. Amos taking exeeption to the issuing of an instruction concerning peacetime, conscription. ' 1 While tlie rulos give certain authority to the national executive, ' ' said Mr. Hansen, ' ' they also contain ample provision to curb any national executive of the union which at any time may cxhibit dictatorial tendencies. Copies of the minutea of the meetings of tlie national executiv liave been forvvarded to branches and. also to inembers of tlie National Couneil. Mr. Amos is included among those to whom . copies have been supplied, and he would be well advised to direct his protest through the proper channels. Immediately Mr. Amos places the matter before us .in a proper manner: it will be givgn prompt consideiution, but no reganl' will be given to his. rhther unique attemp.t to have tlie business of the union condueted tlirough the coliunns of the press. ' '
