The branch re- ; sumes meetings on February 1. ; ,Flood of Mail , The Levin Post Office is flooded with last-minute mail. This morninig the postmaster, Mr. A. V. Morgan, was himself assisting at the 1 counter and lending a hand in the endeavour to cope with a huge volume of Christmas parcels and mail. "The pressure is. on now," commented Mr. Morgan. "Despite the appeals, muoh of the outward mail has been left by the piiblic to the last week." He added that it would be of assistance if persons posting a number of greetings cards tied them together in a bundle. Penicillin for Mastitis Encouraging results; with the use of penicillin in the treatment . of mastitis in cows is reported by the Department of Agriculture which 'indicate'd on Saturday that the 80 per cent success ahticipated has !been ..eclipsed an'd the percentage. 'of subcess is no# ih the nineiies: Some 20,000 tubes of penicillin, sufficient for the ' treatment of about 6000 cows, have been, issued in the district this 'year and the consequent saving of stock has been considerable. It is understood that the: use of penicillin for this purpose in the United States has not met with the success. that was expected. Athletic Sports Tonwht Another cycling match race has been arranged for the Levin Amateur Athletic and- Cycling Cltib's weekly sports tonight, the last before the holiday recess. Mathie, of Otaki, has challenged', Watson, of Foxton, and there will now be threa of tliese events. The broad jurnpevents will be contested at 7 p.m. during the prog;res| of the children's raees. All a'thletes will be visiting Otaki on Wednesday- evening to compete at :a' meeting - the proceedis of which are to be donated to the sports c'andidate-'in'the Queen Carnival -therej The Levin club resumes its sports on January 10. Christmas Caroling ' The influence of hiusic is feit everywhere and' at this season of the year Christmas caroling brmgs much pleasure. This has been exemplified; by the reception the Levin Muniicipal Silver Band has been given througho'ut the borough during the past week in ,its annual caroliiig. An innovation this: year is the introdiuction of Father Christmas to the hand's company, and he has created consi'derabie interest,among the children. Large numtoers of kiddies have followed 1 the bandi, while at ,one street cor- ' ner 52 waiting children were counted.,. Eaeh receiv'ed a bag pf sweets frdm Father Christmas.
