•Received Friday, 10.40 a.m. NANKING, Nov. 11. Thousands of refugees today poured out of Shanghai, partly as a result of the war situation and partly the food shortage. Following the proclamation of martial law, there was a fresh rush on airline and shipping companieh by foreign nonessentials and wealthy Chinese. Four persons were trampled to death in the rush for tickets. Hungry soldiers dumped into North China after the collapse of Manchuria went on a wild grab anything spree in Tientsin today, causing many shops and restanrants to suspend business. The soldiers raided restanrants and small shops in " an effort to obtain merchandise to sell and obtain money for food. One street hawker was killed. The vanguard of General ! Lim Paos Communist Army has ' erossed the Great Wall in its! westward advance, making the j military situation in Hopei, j Jehol, Chahar and Suiyuanj Provinces serious. j The Nationalist forces today ; eompleted their sea evacuation of Hulutao, their last foothold ! in north-eastern China.
